Destroy products containing phenylpropanolamine (PPA) (May 31, 2001)

Health Canada has advised Canadians not to use any products containing phenylpropanolamine (PPA) because of the ingredient's reported association with hemorrhagic stroke. It is widely used as a nasal decongestant in prescription and over-the-counter remedies.

A complete list of products containing PPA is available at Health Canada web site [PDF]. Canadians are being asked to dispose of any of these products found in their homes. — CMAJ
