Women in Judaism: A Multidisciplinary Journal: Announcements http://wjudaism.library.utoronto.ca/index.php/wjudaism WOMEN IN JUDAISM: A MULTIDISCIPLINARY JOURNAL is an academic, refereed journal published exclusively on the Internet, and devoted to scholarly debate on gender-related issues in Judaism. The ultimate aim of the journal is to promote the reconceptualization of the study of Judaism, by acknowledging and incorporating the roles played by women, and by encouraging the development of alternative research paradigms. Cross-methodological and interdisciplinary, the journal does not promote a fixed ideology, and welcomes a variety of approaches. en-US Fri, 27 Feb 2015 00:00:00 -0500 OJS 2.4.6.0 http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/tech/rss 60 Publication: EXODUS, Poems by Janet Ruth Heller, Ph.D http://wjudaism.library.utoronto.ca/index.php/wjudaism/announcement/view/479
EXODUS, Poems by Janet Ruth Heller, Ph.D.

The poems in Exodus (WordTech Editions, 2014) are modern midrashim: re-interpretations and psychological explorations of the people and events in the Bible. A central metaphor is the exodus from Egypt, which represents the journeys that people make: trying new experiences, leaving a bad relationship, finding a new job, taking risks. Many of the poems are dramatic monologues from the perspective of a character in the Jewish Scriptures.

Discussing Exodus would enhance Jewish studies, gender studies, Bible studies, and contemporary literature classes.

ISBN 978-1625490612, 88 pages, $18. Available from Amazon or from Barnes & Noble
http://wjudaism.library.utoronto.ca/index.php/wjudaism/announcement/view/479 Fri, 27 Feb 2015 00:00:00 -0500 New Resource: Agunah Research Unit http://wjudaism.library.utoronto.ca/index.php/wjudaism/announcement/view/471
The Final Publications of the Agunah Research Unit (Manchester) are now available as free downloadable pdfs (from http://www.manchesterjewishstudies.org/publications/).

There are six books: the final report (no.1 below), a 95p. Women in Judaism: A Multidisciplinary Journal is an academic, refereed journal published exclusively on the Internet, and devoted to scholarly debate on gender-related issues in Judaism. With each new issue, we’ll dedicate a section to selected works of fiction. We’re seeking relevant works dealing with Jewish and/or spiritual issues, not exclusively but preferably on women’s issues. We like original, experimental, poignant, provocative, political, personal and daring pieces. We like to test boundaries, set trends, and most importantly, encourage innovation. We don’t like poems about the weather and/or nature. There’re plenty of them around. Unpublished authors of all ages are welcome to submit their work. Genres may include poetry, short stories, short plays, chapters from a novel – the list goes on. We only accept electronic submissions. Send your work or queries to Dina Ripsman Eylon, Editor-in-Chief at dina.eylon@utoronto.ca Please include your submission within the body of the email. If your submission is very long, query first. If we haven’t responded within a reasonable timeframe, you’re welcome to send a friendly reminder.
