FALLEN COMRADES HONOURED Remembrance Day Ceremony links different cultures The above photo was taken atop Mount McKay where some of the Lake Superior Regiment joined in with the Native veterans honouring our fallen comrades of World War I & II. Along with a large group of residents from the Mission our Lake Superior in attendance were Roy Barnes, John Baryluk, Bill Greer, Lawrence Martin (and also a member of the Native Veterans Association) who came all the way from Nipigon for the ceremony, Clarence Mercier, Hap Oldale, Pop Richard, Rafel Wuola. Rev. Bill Maurice led in prayers and stated that this unique Remembrance Service was terrific because it linked the heritages and contributions of different Canadians on a sacred pilgrimage site for the area's Natives. The Lake Superior Colour party was joined with Native Colour bearer Mike Morrison, a Native who fought in World War II. Hap Oldale laid the wreath for the 52nd & Lake Superior Regiment (Motor). Wreaths were also laid by Native residents. |
