Pilgrim Baptist Church (Winnipeg, Manitoba)
The Pilgrim Baptist Church, located in Winnipeg
Manitoba is strongly identified with that city's Black
Community. Since 1935, the Pilgrim congregation has
worshipped from its present location at 41 Maple Street.
At one time Pilgrim was located at the centre of one of
Winnipeg's residential districts, near the Canadian Railway
Centre. More recently, with the growth of commercial and
industrial activities in Winnipeg, and furthermore, as a result
of the construction of a growing number of residential areas
on the outskirts of the old city area, many of Pilgrim's
members are no longer within walking distance of their
church. Yet they have remained faithful to this mainstay that is associated with their Community.
