Lesson 7: The West Coast Environment

Lesson Concept:
This lesson highlights how a group of people’s lifestyles are effected by their physical environments.

Learning Outcome:
It is expected that students will analyze how people interact with their environments, past and present.

Lesson Plan:
Have students research the environment of the Kwakwaka’wakw (the west coast of British Columbia). Have them create a chart that includes the headings : Geography, Food, Shelter, Clothing and Art. Ask students to complete these charts in respect to the West Coast of British Columbia.

Use the students’ findings to initiate discussion on how people’s customs and lifestyles are affected by their natural environments.
