1880s Daybooks

Discussion

After the move to Cottonwood House the Boyd family continued to prosper. Farming became the major generator of income though the roadhouse provided its share.

John Boyd became very involved in a number of mining projects though none of them ever showed great profit. The Big Bonaza Mine at Lightning Creek is often found in the journals and John Boyd spent a considerable amount of time at the mine when he could. The mine claim, by the way, has still to yield the promise of its gold to this day and even modern methods have still to find a method of stopping the soupy clay from seeping into, and flooding every shaft.
