Lake Scugog - Lake Scugog was created when the dam was constructed at Lindsay. The creation of the lake was controversial, but would prove invaluable to the economy of Scugog township.
Roadways - Roads were the first mode of access to the township for early settlers, and often dictated where towns would later develop. Road access to Scugog Island in particular was impossible until bridges were constructed.
Steamboat - The steamboat was essential in the early years of Port Perry. They not only carried lumber to and from mills but were also used to ferry people between Port Perry and other points on the Trent Severn waterway.
Railway - The railway brought prosperity to Port Perry but nearly made another community a ghost town. Learn about how the railway came to Scugog Township.
