Consultations on the Least Wanted Invasive Plants Project and Invasive Plants Policy (closed 2010-09-17)

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is committed to stakeholder consultations because they are a valuable aid to effective decision making. The CFIA solicited comments from stakeholders on its new Invasive Plants Policy and on 25 risk management documents prepared for the Least Wanted Invasive Plants Pilot Project.

Comments received during this consultation will be considered in the decision-making process to include certain invasive plant species on the Pests Regulated by Canada list.

The Invasive Plants Policy will play a critical role in preventing intentional and unintentional introductions of new weeds into Canada. It will also help the CFIA to protect Canada's plant resource base. Legislation related to this initiative includes the Plant Protection Act, the Plant Protection Regulations, the Seeds Act and the Seeds Regulations.

Contact the Invasive Plants Section if you want copies of any of the detailed risk management documents or if you have questions or comments related to this consultation
