Henry Kelsey gave his life and career to the Hudson's Bay Company. During his 40 years of service, he was a sailor, explorer and governor. He was renowned for his knowledge of the languages and cultures of the Cree and Assiniboine. These were very useful for his journey to the Prairies in 1690-1692. He is credited with being the first European to see the Prairies.
