Map by Iligliuk, 1822

Drawn on Winter Island in 1822 by Iligliuk, an Inuk woman, this map of the Melville Peninsula and the Baffin Land was published in the Journal of the Second Voyage for the Discovery of a North-West Passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific [1824], by Captain William Edward Parry.

European explorers relied heavily on the Inuit to discover the geography of the North, but very few maps drawn by Inuit have survived.
