Library and Archives Canada: A Proud Partner of Ottawa’s Sm@rtLibrary Project

Ottawa, February 19, 2004  --  Library and Archives Canada is proud to announce its partnership in the Sm@rtLibrary project (www.smartlib-bibliogen.ca), an exciting new Web site that offers users in the National Capital Region an opportunity to access a full array of resources in a single portal.

A consortium of federal, municipal and institutional libraries in the region, the project brings together the library catalogues of Library and Archives Canada, the Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information, Carleton University, the University of Ottawa and the Ottawa Public Library.

The Sm@rtLibrary site provides students, teachers, researchers and the public in general with access to information on a wide range of topics from all partners in the consortium. From information on books, sound and video recordings, scientific journals and government publications to genealogical and family history resources, Sm@rtLibrary offers a wealth of information at your fingertips.

Sm@rtLibrary is a project of the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation’s Sm@rtCapital program (www.smartcapital.ca), which provides on-line services for all sectors of the community in the National Capital Region.

The official launch was held on February 10 in the Ottawa City Hall Council Chambers and included presentations from representatives of the Sm@rtLibrary and Sm@rtCapital projects.
