OLIPHANT COMMISSION REPORT TO BE RELEASED MAY 31, 2010

Ottawa, November 6, 2009- The report of the Oliphant Commission will be completed and released May 31st, 2010, representing a five-month delay from the December 31st, 2009 deadline, but the Commission is able to do so within the estimated budget announced last year.

The delay is due primarily to the extensive analysis process involving the 150,000 pages of documents filed with the Commission. Commissioner Jeffrey J. Oliphant will complete each chapter on a rolling basis through to March in order to expedite the editing, translation and publishing processes.

"Even with the extension of the report deadline, the Commission is still on track to be within the overall budget of $14.1 million," added Commission spokesman Barry McLoughlin. "The Commissioner and staff have been working extremely hard to meet the deadline. However, as the extent of the documentation and analysis was far greater than anticipated, Commissioner Oliphant came to the difficult conclusion that it was better to seek the extension in order to ensure that the report meets the exacting standards that are required."

Expenditures have been tabled in the 2008/2009 Public Accounts of Canada report as identified on the Oliphant Commission web-site, Proactive Disclosure of Expenses and Contracts'.
