ROW, ROW, ROW YOUR BOAT
Robin Muller
Volume 22 Number 1
On a bright summer day a badger decides, "A life at sea's the one for me, so goodbye to the land!" Off he goes in a row-boat, to the rhythm of "Row, Row Row Your Boat." Robin Muller's cheerful illustrations show the badger as he is joined by friendly animals all along the stream. The boat becomes seriously overloaded, until at last the inevitable happens and the badger bails out. In an unexpected twist, he decides, "A train's the thing for me!" and his tune changes to "I've Been Working on the Railroad." Young children will delight in listening to Muller's rollicking verses expanding on the familiar "Row, row, row," and parents, librarians and teachers will enjoy reading the book aloud. The colourful illustrations offer their own delight portraying the amiable badger and his very individual animal friends. This book is one to treasure and enjoy with as many children as possible. Highly recommended. Kindergarten to Grade 3 / Ages 5 to 8 Adele M. Fasick is a professor in the Faculty of Library and Information Science at the University of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario |
