This is the second title featuring Pikolo and his extraordinary nighttime adventures. The first book, Paper Nights (Annick Press, 1992), was selected by CM as a Notable Canadian Illustrated Book for 1992.

In this new tale, Pikolo is presented with a magical train from his Uncle Roger. That evening the wonderful train takes Pikolo through the dark of his bedroom closet and off into the starry night to find the "treasure tree." Along the way Pikolo meets many other children whizzing through the night sky on their own trains. He explores the enchanting Wood City, follows a map through a maze, and finally finds the incredible Treasure Tree. Pikolo claims his prize, a little sapling, and bursts back through his closet and into bed just at sunrise. Snuggling under the covers, he dreams of how he and his Uncle Roger will plant the Treasure Tree sapling deep in the forest.

This charming tale is a perfect vehicle for Gilles Tibo's magnificent pictures. It is fast-paced, exciting and sure to be a favourite with young readers.

Recommended.
