A painter and printmaker, Leonard Paul received a B.F.A. from Nova Scotia College, a B.A. (Art History and Political Science) and an M.A. (Philosophy and Religion) from Acadia University, Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Deriving much of his inspiration from Western art's old masters, he has travelled extensively in Europe, India, and elsewhere, gleaning insights into techniques he applies to his evocations of pastoral rivers and landscapes. In 1993, Paul received the Governor General's medal and a nomination for the national Aboriginal Achievement Award. In 1996, Leonard Paul was inducted into The Canadian Who's Who.
