Edward
Nibgoarsi
Edward
was born near Arviat at a river called Qajurvik. He grew up at Qamanirjuk
near Arviat. There weren’t that many other families travelling with Edward's
family, but there were a few and he could not really remember as it was
so long ago. Edward was born to Ijaak and Qaunnaq, from Katlak and Angataaq.
His adopted parents were Anita Iblauk’s mom and dad, Ijaak and Qaunnaq.
In the winter, the people around Arviat moved from place to place, and
the town would be empty. Due to the lack of food, people would stay close
together though. In the summer, they didn’t move around a lot.
Edward
feels that it’s too hard to be out on the land now. Edward doesn’t remember
when he permanently moved here to Arviat. It was a long time ago. He never
thought his life style would change. He thinks that it would be impossible
to go back to the way it used to be. There were too many changes that occurred
and it would be too hard to try and get back to the way it used to be.
"The white men came and brought their stuff. We started living off them.
That is all we need to survive in this world now." This is what he thinks
has changed our lives.
