TYPES OF PROJECTILES

Case Shot (10Kb)Case or Canister Shot: filled with small metal balls, metal scraps, shrapnel.

Solid Shot (13Kb)Solid Shot: most effectively and widely used in smooth bore guns. Attached to a wooden Sabot.

Grape Shot (13Kb)Grape Shot: heavy balls strung or quilted together; separating in flight after being fired.
Explosive Shot (12Kb)Shell: used with a fuse for a timed explosion.

Manby’s Shot: shot with a rope attached, used for shooting rescue lines to ships.

Martin’s Shell: insulated hollow sphere filled with molten metal.

Parachute Light Ball: parachute on a burning rocket, used to suspend light for several minutes.

Hot Shot: solid shot heated in a hot shot furnace; used to set wooden ships and wooden building on fire.

Bar Shot: a projectile which elongates itself in flight; used to destroy a ships rigging and sails.
