Archaeological Site Survey of the "Old French Graveyard" at Prevecure.

Due to the lack of time and the unavailability of someone to guide us to the exact location of the site, the committee did not complete the field work report or historical background on the "Old French Graveyard".

Interview with Mr. Ed Lake, July 26, 1972. Interviewed by G.W.M. Carroll, P.A. Rowe and R. John Phippard.

Mr. Lake stated that about ten years ago he was with a group of boys playing ball on a meadow in the area of Privecure. One of the boys found what appeared to be the remains of a coffin. The sides of the object were of metal, the top and bottom (probably wooden parts) were missing. The object also had metal hinges.

In describing the area of the find Mr. Lake said it was in the area of ridges or mounds, "Like a potato patch", which extended about 40 feet.

Mr. Lake cannot remember exactly who found the coffin, nor does he have any idea of it's present location. He believes, however that he would be able to pinpoint the exact location of the discovery if he were to look for it.

Mr. Lake has no knowledge of anyone else who has found anything of archaeological interest in this vicinity. He does, however, vaguely remember stories told by old people in Freshwater about and old French graveyard in the area of Privecore.
