About images

We humans are designed to be creative: self-healing, nurturing, intuitive, powerful beings. Part of our strength lies in our ability to remember, imagine, and dream. Especially potent are the images which surface with our dreams, and those which flash upon the just-closed eye. They have been filtered through the soul..and sometimes through the very soul of all life.

Do we stop to realize how many images enter through our worldly eyes every day? Where those images come from, what they are put there for, the effect they are designed to have on us? Including, and I apologize, those you are looking at right now. (Go on, turn it off if you like!)

Paying attention to our own imagery is an affirmation of our own power. Growth doesn't happen to us; it's a process we participate in. Our responsibility involves being responsive to the imagery of the soul. Uncovering a soul image is like receiving a gift in the mail, a little parcel left on the doorstep. We gingerly unwrap it, a little eager, a little wary. What is this? Maybe a fine sphere of crystal, maybe a well-loved childhood doll, maybe dog turds!...or maybe something we have never seen before, something we can only begin to imagine how to make use of.

The beauty of images is that they don't always need to be recognized or explaned. Lodged within us, they resonate, pulse. We find our feelings, thoughts and actions align with our imagery. We build and create.

Our dream imagery may be profoundly disturbing (the severed head of a child), deeply comforting (the hand of our mother), visionary (a group of entwined biomorphic forms), or merely startling (a terrier balancing an apple on its nose).

Who is talking?

In your dream, in the recent dream you're remembering as you read this, is it the voice of a child you never had? The child you once were? The hamburger you ate for supper? The Black Madonna? Humanity? Pay attention...this is the voice you need most to listen to right now.

At the same time, you're reading my words. Who is talking to you here, from the outside? My name is Oiseau. I am an artist, poet, visionary, mother, and full-time human. A profound spiritual experience this winter crystalized my building desire to fully integrate my artwork with my spiritual beliefs, and my intention to dedicate my life to wholeness and healing.

How does this all fit together?

We swim together...

My gift is my ability to listen, and to use a brush to help an image make the leap from the imagination to the wall.

Your gift (among others, of course!) is your unique ability to generate and communicate important imagery. You dream of a sea turtle. You wake in the morning with a blissful sense of ease, release. Who is this creature? And what, the ocean? You hardly know, and yet you want to stay with this image, see where it is leading in your life.

One thing you can choose to do at this point is email me, tell me as much as you would like to about the image, what it means to you, and any ideas you might have about how it could be translated into a picture.

Then I get to work, do a watercolour painting based on your information (I love to do this and I dive right in. Under most circumstances it takes me no more than a week.) and email you back a jpg file copy of the painting, for your approval. If you feel positive about continuing with the transaction, we set up payment via CCNow online, MasterCard by phone, or good old fashioned cheque by mail.

And I mail you your painting...this is getting exciting!

How will I use my new artwork?

I imagine you will want to frame your painting and place it somewhere significant...in your bedroom, at your altar, maybe somewhere more public if you are ready to share this imagery.

The work of life is only just beginning! You may chose to work with your image in some of these ways:

  • As a focus for meditation or prayer
  • As a starting point for journalling
  • As a focus of intention before sleep; you can gently ask to be guided further by your dreams
  • As a way of sharing human truths with others, when appropriate
  • As a daily reminder that you are listening to your own voice, and to the deep promptings of spirit

Is this a gift I can give someone else?
Of course! Most effective is to let the person do their own communication with me, so that they are able to convey the imagery that is most meaningful in their own life right now. What a loving gift to give!

How much does it cost?

and,
tell me some more about yourself and your art, please, Oiseau

click for bio

It costs $250 US.
What you receive is an original watercolour painting, 14" x 18", professionally matted and ready for framing (outside dimensions of the mat 20" x 24"). I don't frame the painting because I can't mail glass. All the materials are artist-grade and acid-free for a long, long "shelf-life." I send the painting encased in a crystal-pastic envelope which protects it (and through which you can look at the painting, till you're ready for framing).

I live in Canada and of course am happy with payment in Canadian dollars. We'll figure out the current exchange. US customers should be aware that they may be charged import duty.

You're intrigued and you want to start talking with me about the process? Great! Email me at

       Here's a little secret...

If you like all these ideas, but it doesn't work for you to spend money right now, of course there's another way to go about it! Grab a piece of paper and some markers, or some scraps of cloth and some glue, and get to work yourself. In fact, do it right now, whether you're going to have me make a picture for you or not.
Yes! we're all artists!

Another thing you can do for free is continue your explorations. One resource at your disposal is my page of links to other dream and spirit related sites.

Go in peace, my friend.
