EN LUMIÈRE SHINES A LIGHT ON MONTREAL AND HAITI

This year's festival has cooked up a different dish regarding the food side of things. Rather than looking abroad to feature chefs from other countries, its chef in command Jean-Pierre Curtat, who runs the menu at the Casino de Montréal, has made Montreal, and yes, some of the previous MEL guests from other countries the savoury star attraction.

La Belle Ville (Canada's City of Lights) is about to become the land of gourmet greats. Joining the rostrum of powerhouse culinary wizards are oodles of artists, especially singers and musicians and media personalities. They will appear during almost every dining event. Over 48 restaurants will be serving their goods, and many of them are doing it with luminaries in the food biz during the series of Amitiés gourmande Air France, Montreal-San Francisco ( the featured American City) and the amazing Coup de chapeau à Haiti (Hats off to Haiti). In all there are nine Dining Events, and perhaps the most moving is that meal to be served for 400 guests by Stephan Berrouet Durand, chef of the Plaza Hôtel in Port-au-Prince and ambassador of Haitian cuisine who has concocted a 3-course menu steeped in Haitian fare. Haitian troubadours will enhance the already festive ambience slated for Saturday March 1 at 6:30 at Marché Bonsecours.

This affair is just one of the exciting events that also put the table spotlight on bread, cheeses, Louisiana and more. There are also all kinds of overnight packages for out-of-towners and locals too wanting to make food the music of love with Lumière.

A gala event to raise funds for Centreaide of Greater Montreal will be held on Tuesday, February 18th, from 6 pm to 10pm. It will feature over 25 master chefs' creations as singers and dancers add great sparkle and artistry to the sterling event.
