by P. J. Stewert-Hovey

Five Canadian women share their joys, sorrows and challenges as they struggle to survive and raise families. The women, born pre WWII, each from a different region of Canada--east coast, middle Canada, prairies, west coast and arctic--did whatever had to be done to support the family. One woman, abandoned, raises five children on her own. A second women supports ailing parents and a sick child not knowing if her husband is dead or a prisoner and then travels to a place called Canada--she had no idea where it was. A third tells of the struggle for survival in farming on the Prairies; another tells her story of life in England and then in Canada. The fifth tells of a nomadic life in the Arctic. All five women share photos with the reader.
