A Smile to Treasure
by Leslie Lynam Carl Bull arrived in his beloved Montana in 1900 with optimistic dreams, a great sense of humor, a strong set of family values, a song in his heart and an endless smile. He spent the next fifty years in the northeastern part of Montana ranching, banking, building lifelong friendships, and sharing his smile. Get on your saddle and come ride with me as we follow Carl Bull's trail from Iowa through Montana and on into Washington. Review: Sheridan County in its entirety doesn't have as many residents as you can find in a subdivision of Billings or Kalispell. But do we ever have am interesting history-up here in the Northeastern corner of the Treasure State. If yo would like to sample a bit of that surprising history, try to find a copy of a new book entitled "A Smile To Treasure." The book was written by Bull's granddaughter, Leslie Lynam of Washington State. The book details the trying times Carl Bull went through as a Sheridan County banker during the turbulent 1920s and 1930s.The book also features Leslie Lynam's search for her grandfather's history in this area. Included in the book are a few tales about legendary Sheriff, Jack Bennett, the great prairie fire of 1910, as well as an occasional cowboy story.
