21st Century Coffeehouse

Her crystal blue eyes
stare intently at the laptop
like sapphires glittering
in a cyber-sun.

Computer enhanced photographs
decorate the walls,
while a tangle of green pothos vines
dance amidst the speaker wires.

The honestly white-haired men
discuss politics;
their newspapers
flat upon the table.

But all the college students
have computers for companions –
their faces reflected
in the LCD mirrors.

Alan Scott is a native and continuing resident of California. The serpentine course of his life has wound from honor student to hippie dropout to office worker to science student to political activist, and most recently taken the form of unemployed non-profit administrator. He has been a closeted writer all the while, and Ascent Aspirations shall be the first to publish his work.
