Etched Twilight
Dug up family secrets buried
Pounding rusty bent nails into
Coffin hollow rattle echoing inside
Mottled shadows slipping through cracks
Moth balls stuck in corners
Hope chest heirlooms emptied out
Imitation crystal secondhand promises shattered
Petrified cut-glass splinters last remains
Mummified cat interred alongside master
Stench reeking of embalming fluid
Gauze loose ends coming unraveled
Dead end sarcophagus sealed uptight
Legacy of guilt passed on
Confessed sins fading mauve sunset
Memory tattoos engraved double-faced tombstone
Blank slate taken for granite
ECO-ECHOES
When good weeds go bad
It takes vigilant commitment to
Root out invasive species while
Protecting delicate native ecosystem balance
Feathery water milfoil alien organisms
Choking out bulbous hyacinthine plants
Struggle to contain fast-breeder spread
Cleanup dependent upon human watchfulness
Befallen creatures looked down upon
Soiled netherworld verminous underground resistance
Night crawlers scurrying for cover
Firefly torchbearers wingless glowworm grubs
Cobwebs stuck cringing in corners
Spider entrapping victim sticky web
Male horseflies feed on pollen
Sip nectar females suck blood
