Raising Children

I've been asked on numerous occasions ( or maybe I just volunteered the information when conversation lagged) what my views of raising children to 18 and THEY live to tell about it.

When my girls were able to understand English, we (I) had a code in public when (ahem ) one was out of line (to save image and forgo jail time), I would use the phrase "when we get home, you and I are going to do the fandango." Now, that got her attention.

If both little darlings were causing confusion,I'd simply smile and announce, "It's triangle time when we arrive home." Not knowing how this communication had an affect, one outing, my two year old told her daddy "PLEASE tell mommy I DON"T WANT to do the fandango when we get home!"

Now, you may have counted that I only have 2 children, both girls. Was this by choice or chance?(you decide).......

Early on, doing the math, both sides of my family tree had...you guessed it....girls. I explained to my hubby that I would give the Good Lord two chances for a boy. Unannounced to me, in the 1980's, you were required to have your husband's consent to have YOUR tubes tied.

After the second birth and I'm recovering from being turned inside out, hubby leans over the hospital bed to inform me " I (HE) thinks WE (???) should try one more time for a boy."

I politely raised nose to nose with him and "shared" the facts of life, non-sedated...mind you. The words I used were " THERE are 2 ways to prevent pregnancy in OUR marriage.....one abstanence...two...tubes tie....He quickly grabbed a pen and inquired where to sign.
