The Gift
Little did I know, decades prior to "Going Green", that I was an original forerunner to this global movement. In the 80's an 90's, due to an early marriage, I called it "Living Lean"!
I looked at each item we purchased as to what it might be in its second life. One of the bonuses it held was the container it came in. Take grocery packaging for instance. What would add more mystic and create an element of surprise than to receive a gift enclosed in a mac and cheese box?
For years, my girls would shake, toss, smell, and "peek" into Christmas wrapping only to discover a cereal box or a dry pudding carton. But as with every brilliant idea comes some do and don'ts. One "do" is to empty the content first before wrapping.
A few "don'ts" are 1) Don't wrap lingerie in a "feminine needs product" box (need I explain). 2) Don't use a cigarette carton
for ex-smokers. 3) For gifts to your boss, it is wise not to use a mixed nut can. 4) Don't use
brownie mix packaging for dieters.
Some tips that should speak without saying: 1) If dating (listen closely men) DON'T wrap ANYTHING in a used jewelry box.
2) Ladies- don't use a dog bone carton to wrap hubbies gift in. 3) Last- never, NEVER use a landry detergent
box to house a fruit cake.
The following is my Christmas gift to you : TOO SIMPLE, SIMPLE FUDGE
Put 18 oz. chocolate morsels and 1 can of sweeten condensed milk into a glass microwavable bowl.....microwave on high 1 and 1/2 minutes...stir*...microwave 1 and 1/2 minutes longer....add 1 teaspoon vanilla with a dash of salt...stir*....add walnuts or pecans...stir*...Pour hot mixture into 8 X 8 pan lined with wax paper (if on a diet- gently tilt the pan to your right for all carbs and calories to run). Let sit at room temperature 3 hours. (* only lick the spoon ONCE)
Recipients can't believe it's not homemade. I find 4 pieces fit snugly into a bar of soap box....but I wouldn't recommend it!
