MUSINGS on Sylvia Plath
- a 20th Century Poetic Comet

Why couldn’t you wait, Sylvia?
Day dreaming, hoping to meet you,
we were just young mothers
struggling to find words
for the poems raging inside
of us - summer of 1963 -
household dust, toddlers attached to knees,
hungry husbands, demanding
our creative energy
as our mouths opened
too often soundless,
just small O’s gaping
dry tongued
white teeth rimmed
our stilled caves of
craving.
