CAMELLIA
Starting tight,
Small clenched fist, unpromising bud,
I unfurl in on myself.
Layer on layer, peeling back down and in
Through fleshy pink to blood veined red
Then penultimate black.
Sinking softly inwards,
Ring-a-ring-a roses
Till we all lie down,
Cupped in the dark
That buds within us.
