DANIA BEACH

Ripples of sky and blue water
surround us.
Loss at sea is irreversible.
Clouds that once were here
never come back..

The heat beats down and down and down.
The saltiness of green ocean water fills lungs
and spills out over onto the deck..
Sails furl and unfurl,
flap and wave

as if that could bring you back.
Rescue parties come and go
board and search, wave, signal, flag,
radio. Static crackles, points to the horizon,
disappears behind tanker wash.

Tomorrow we search again, fresh
from dreams of mountain lakes,
canyon streams, inland valleys.
Tomorrow we say the ocean has done this,
never ending.
