Instant Replay
Life needs an instant replay,
a button we hit to stop
to look over and over,
to judge the close calls:
a replay with emotion dials
to feel what's right and wrong,
to relive those rare moments
over and over until they fade
and we pray for commercials,
switch the channel, look for something new:
the old life is gone,
face the new one with replays,
let's get the score right:
but who is free enough to keep score
when we are our own referees,
own our cheaters, our solid critics:
where we are left to decide,
today's balances are quantum steps
where we hope to reach a balance.
Nowhere Near Dallas
This man
wants everything for himself;
some mad soap opera logic
told him the path to choose,
But he steps on a foot too many,
Now his sons cheat each other
for his money.
The other man
wants everything for someone else;
Some deep connection of eyes
caught him, extracted his love,
But she never tried to notice him,
Now she is gone and he talks
to the wall.
