Author's Guidelines Ascent Aspirations will be publishing two combined issues September/October and November/December 2014 to round out 17 years on-line. All contrbutors who have been accepted up to March 2015 will be included in one of these issues. We will be reading what is in our submissions file and adding to accpectances. Then we are going to take a one year break from publishing on-line but will still continue with publishing one print anthology a year. As of August 4th 2014, we will no longer be accepting submissions for the on-line publication of Ascent.
Currently this year we have received many submissions which have been read and decisions for future monthly issues have been made. As a result we are committed for short fiction for an entire year, and for poetry the next 8 months. We are committed for essays, reviews, and visual art for the next 3 months. What we are trying to do on a regular basis is to read all submissions that come in on a weekly basis and make decisions in a timely fashion. However as you can see from the comments above that these decsions will be for future issues for at least 3 months in advance and possibly 8 to 12 months in advance depending on the genre of the piece. So having said that, please keep sending us your best work. Ascent Aspirations Magazine, established in 1997, as a quarterly, became in August 2009,
a monthly electronic journal online.
ONCE OR TWICE A YEAR AN ANTHOLOGY IS PRODUCED AND CALLS FOR SUBMISSIONS ARE OPERATED AS CONTESTS AND REQUIRE A READING FEE. SEE SPECIFIC
GUIDELINES FOR DETAILS FOR EACH ANTHOLOGY. Ascent Aspirations Magazine will accept
previously published work on occasion, however we prefer unpublished work. We
ask for first print or electronic publishing rights to any unpublished piece that
its editors select. At the time of publication, all rights revert back to the
author/artist. Full © remains with the author. Should you decide to republish
the piece elsewhere, we ask that you cite Ascent Aspirations Magazine as a place
of previous publication and provide the Ascent Aspirations Magazine's web address.
Each issue will be archived in the permanent feature section of the web page.
The purpose of the publication is to promote aspiring writers and visual artists
in their efforts to bring their work to the world. Unfortunately we are unable
to pay at this time but we can and do provide promotion, exposure and advertising
for our authors. Make sure the text and punctuation is straight forward so it
can be easily transferred into a word document. E-mail addresses should be included
so readers and other publishers can contact you if they like your work. Include
a photo for our contributors page, as an attachment in jpeg format. In the subject
line please put one of the following as a title"Poetry Submission", "Short
Story Submission", "Essay Submission" or "Art Submission". Work not titled in
the subject line as stated may not get through to the editor as it will be treated
as spam. Incredible online http://www.test-king.com/onlinecourses/GMAT.htm helps you pass in http://www.test-king.com/cert-CCENT.htm. SPOKEN WORD PAGE
Ascent will be developing a Spoken Word Page for future issues. The easiest way for us to do this is for the writer to send us their YouTube url of a spoken word piece with a bio and the text of their piece and we will decide if the submission is for us and we will then embed the YouTube url into our Spoken Word Page.
Ascent accepts unsolicited manuscripts of:
Short Fiction, 1000 words or less,
Poetry, preferrablly short enough to fill a page. (We do not publish long multi-page poems.
Short Essays (1000 words or less) on life and the human condition,
Reviews of current published works,
Visual Art, (Paintings or Photographs) Send 8 jpgs for an exhibit with a bio and a photo.
The emphasis for short fiction is on literary, science fiction,
fantasy and horror or dark main stream. Poetry can be about anything provided
the work reflects the general tone and quality established in previous issues.
Short essays should comment on life, philosophy, mythology and the human condition
without preaching for any particular organized mainstream religious system. A
visual art submission should consist of 8 jpgs, with the artist's bio, and any
commentary on the art if needed.
Please provide a short bio and a head-shot photo with your submission.
