THE UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA ANNOUNCES TWO OPENINGS:



(1)  The DEPARTMENT OF CLASSICS invites applications for a tenure track

position at the level of Assistant Professor in the field of Ancient

History, preferably Social History, beginning July.1, 1995. The successful

applicant must have a completed PhD or evidence of imminent completion, be

competent to teach both Greek and Latin, and show a clear promise of

excellence in teaching and research. A willingness to contribute to the

Departmental archaeology programme and/or to teach a course in Classical

myth and religion will be considered an asset. Salary commensurate with

qualifications and experience. Applicants should send a curriculum vitae

and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to

invite applications for a tenure track position at the level of Assistant

Professor, beginning July 1, 1995. The position will be held in the new

Department of Classical, Near Eastern and Religious Studies, planned for

July 1, 1995. The successful applicant must have a completed PhD or

evidence of imminent completion, and show a clear promise of excellence in

teaching and research. There is no restriction on field of specialization

(including both Classical and Near Eastern archaeology),  but preference

will be given to a candidate who can contribute to the activities of the

various branches of the new Department. An interest in interdisciplinary

approaches to teaching will also be considered an asset. Salary

commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applicants should in the
