The Department of History and Classics, University of Alberta, invites

applications for a tenure-stream appointment at the junior Assistant

Professor level in the area of Latin Literature, preferably in Latin

poetry; ability to teach in other areas such as mythology and cultural

studies would be an asset.  Familiarity with computer applications in

language instruction will be highly desirable. Demonstrated excellence in

teaching and research is expected; a PhD is required prior to receipt of a

contract. 



The appointment will commence 1 July 1996, conditional on funds being made

available.  The current salary floor for an Assistant Professor is $39,230.

are required.  In addition three referees should be asked to send

confidential letters of appraisal to Ms Louise Jenkins, Secretary to the

Hiring Committee, Department of History and Classics, University of

Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, T6G 2H4.  Closing date: 30 October 1995.
