                       MCMASTER UNIVERSITY



     The Department of Classics of McMaster University invites applications

for a tenure-track position in Greek Art and Archaeology.  The successful

candidate will have a completed Ph.D., with specialization in Greek Art or

Architecture of the Archaic, Classical, or Hellenistic periods, and will

have demonstrated excellence in teaching and research.  He or she will be

expected to contribute to the Department's graduate programme in his/her

area of specialization in the near future.  Responsibilities will include

teaching classical civilization, Greek and Latin at the undergraduate

level.  The appointment, which is subject to final budgetary approval, will

be made at the Assistant Professor level, for which the minimum salary in

1995/96 is $39,981 (CDN).  The starting date is August 1, 1996.
