The Department of Classical Studies seeks applications for a tenure-track

position beginning 1 September 1996.  The successful candidate will be

expected to teach a wide range of courses in an undergraduate department,

in Greek and Roman civilization and Greek and Latin languages, both on

campus and by distance education.  Research area is open, but the person

must have an active program with publications or potential publications. 

Salary range commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Applicants

should send their CV and arrange for at least three referees to send

letters of reference directly to R.L. Fowler, Chair, Department of

Classical Studies, University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario N2L 3G1 by

May 31, 1996.  In accordance with Canadian Immigration requirements, this

advertisement is directed to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. 

The University of Waterloo encourages applications from all qualified

availability of funds.  It is the intention of the University of Waterloo

to fill its vacancies with recent Ph.D. graduates appointed as Assistant
