From: Don Fowler
Subject: Temporary post at Oriel College, Oxford
The following temporary post is likely to be of interest mainly to locals
(however defined). I'm happy to give any more information I can, but I'm
posting the "further particulars" themselves in view of the deadline.
Don
Oriel and Jesus Colleges Oxford
Stipendiary lectureship in Ancient History
The Colleges propose to appoint a full-time lecturer in Ancient History for
two terms from January 1998 to teach up to 12 hours per week. The person
appointed will be required to undertake all the duties normally performed
by the Fellow and Tutor in the subject (Dr. Simon Hornablower), who has
recently taken up a post at University College, London. These are:
1. To organise the teaching of Ancient History in the Colleges.
2. To share in pastoral duties relating to Ancient History students in the
Colleges.
3. The Colleges together admit an average of nine undergraduates a year to
read for the 4-year classics course, and about two a year to read for joint
schools involving Ancient History (Ancient and Modern History). The person
appointed will be expected to have a broad competence in teaching both
Greek and Roman history.
The person appointed will be a member of the Senior Common Rooms and will
be entitled to free lunches and dinners at the Common Table and to a
teaching room in Oriel College. The stipend will be 16,045 pounds per
annum.
Applicants should write to the Academic Registrar, Oriel College, Oxford
OX1 4EW, enclosing a curriculum vitae and a brief statement of research
interests (seven copies of each) together with the names of three referees.
The closing date for applications is Wednesday 12 November 1996. Candidates
are asked to request their referees to send references direct to the
Academic Registrar before Wednesday 12 November.
Oriel and Jesus Colleges are equal opportunities employers.
