ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN CLASSICS AND HISTORY.



The Departments of the Classics and the Department of History have been

authorized to recommend appointment of an untenured professor  (Assistant

or Associate) level in the field of ancient (Greek and Roman) history. The

appointment will be from 1 July 1999, and carries the possibility of

promotion, including to tenure. Completion of the Ph.D. before appointment

is required.  The appointee will be expected to have a broad interest in

either Greek or Roman history (preferably Greek) over a wide range of time,

and to be familiar with current historical methods and trends. Competence

in both Greek and Latin is expected, and in addition a clear commitment to

broad-gauged teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
