[1] From: Rainer Friedrich, Dalhousie University <fredrich@is.dal.ca>

I would like to organize a THEMATIC SESSION on "The Politics of Old Comedy" for the CAC Annual Meeting in Winnipeg. Ian Storey has already declared that he would participate. I am offering a paper entitled "Was Aristophanes an Oligarchic Propagandist?"in which I respond critically to Alan Sommerstein's view, expressed in a series of articles, that this question has to be answered in the affirmative. This could become the new orthodoxy given the stature of Sommerstein as an Aristophanic scholar. Before this happens and the 'political' in OC is indentified with 'oligarchic', it should be debated. Anyone interested should contact me at <FREDRICH@is.dal.ca> or Tel. 902-494-3468 or FAX 902-494-2467.
