Message Concerning the AGM Questionnaire

I am concerned that some members who wished to register their opinions on the issue of the  future location and timing of the AGM may have inadvertently missed the original deadline of January 10.  President Russell has therefore asked that I offer members a second chance to respond to the questionnaire. The new deadline is FEBRUARY 12.  For your convenience, the questionnaire document is reprinted below in both English and French.

Questionnaire on Location & Timing of AGM in Future Years

Since 1999 the CAC has held its AGM separately from the Congress of Learned Societies, now organized by the HSSFC (at Laval in 1999; at the University of Winnipeg in 2000), and the 2001 AGM will also be held separately from the Learneds (at the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University).  These decisions have been taken each year on an ad-hoc basis, in response to arguments presented by the executive of the CAC Council. In reaction to some of the points raised in the discussion at the Winnipeg AGM, Council decided that the membership at large should be polled,  so as to enable those who were not at the meeting to express their opinions.  It was hoped that such an expression of opinion might provide clear guidance for Council in establishing policy for the future on the location and timing of the AGM.

The following questionnaire and statement of the pro's and con's of meetings in association with the Learneds or independent of the Learneds has been prepared by an ad-hoc committee (consisting of Professors H. Leclerc, C. Marshall, D. Mirhady, and C. Rubincam [Chair]) set up by President Russell in the summer of 2000.

Members are asked to read through the statement of pro's and con's and respond to the questionnaire by e-mail or fax  NO LATER THAN February 12, 2001.  E-mail responses to:  <humanist@credit.erin.utoronto.ca>   Fax responses to:  905-828-5202 (Attn. Professor C. Rubincam).

Statement of pro's and con's.

5 ____          4 ____          3 ____          2 ____          1 ____
