The Department of Classics invites applications for a definite
tenure-track appointment. The department is particularly interested in
a specialist in Roman history and culture. We seek candidates who
demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching Greek and Latin, as well as a wide
range of courses in translation. The successful applicant will be
expected to contribute to both undergraduate and graduate programs in a
rejuvenated department. Applicants must provide evidence of teaching
and research. Ph.D. in hand or near completion preferred. Letters of
application should be sent to the Head of the department, accompanied
by a current curriculum vitae, a teaching dossier, a sample of academic
writing, the names and addresses of three persons who can supply a
letter of reference, and such additional materials as may be specified.

The position will normally commence July 1, 2007, subject to budgetary
approval, and will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor. All
positions normally require a completed doctoral degree in the
appropriate discipline. A completed earned doctorate is required for
the appointee to receive the rank of Assistant Professor and to be in a
tenure-track position. (If a successful candidate has not completed an
earned doctorate, he/she shall be appointed to a regular term,
non-renewable three-year appointment at the rank of Assistant
Professor. If the candidate completes all the requirements for the
doctorate during the first 24 months of the term appointment, he/she
shall begin a tenure-track appointment following completion of the
requirements of the degree).
