Department/Program:  Interdisciplinary Studies/Classical Studies
Subject Area:  CLST 1110 - Introduction to Greek Civilization

Description of Position:  One temporary part-time position to teach a portion of CLST 1110  Introduction to Greek Civilization. This course is team taught.  The successful applicant will be responsible for six lectures on the art history and archaeology of ancient Greece, particularly fifth century Athens. In preparing these lectures the applicant will be expected to take into account the content of the other portions of the course (literature, philosophy, social and political history), by working closely with the coordinator.  The successful applicant will have expertise in Classical art history; some experience in relevant archaeology would be desirable.
Required Qualifications:  Masters degree or equivalent.  Demonstrated teaching ability at the post-secondary level and ability to teach in a team environment.

This is a Part-Time position, 1/32 of Full-Time.

Length of appointment:  September 1-December 31, 2010; one and one-half weeks during the Fall semester.
Start Date:  September 1, 2010.

Salary placement on Langara instructors
' salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.

TERM OF APPOINTMENT:  September 1, 2010-April 30, 2011
BASE STIPEND:  $11,361.00 + 4% vp (subject to renegotiation of the Collective Agreement)
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:  Successful applicant will have the responsibility for the preparation and presentation of the course including lectures, the conduct of seminars/tutorials, marking, the development and administration of tests and examinations, submission of grades, and the maintenance of reasonable hours for student contact outside of scheduled hours.
QUALIFICATIONS:  Applicant should preferably have a Ph.D., have a demonstrated ability in undergraduate instruction and an interest and expertise in Ancient History.
