12-MONTH LECTURER POSITION IN GREEK AND ROMAN HISTORY

The Department of Classical, Near Eastern and Religious Studies is seeking applications for a 12-Month Lecturer position in Greek and Roman History. Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in Classical Studies or a related field. The successful candidate will possess a strong commitment to teaching and be able to teach surveys of Greek and Roman history, as well as specialized upper-level courses on Athens in the classical period and Alexander the Great. The ability to teach introductory languages is also particularly desired. The position involves teaching 24 credits (equivalent of eight 3-credit courses) and participating fully in student advising, departmental service, events and initiatives. The 1-year appointment is expected to commence September 1, 2015. This position is subject to final budgetary approval. Reappointment will be subject to performance and availability of funds.

CANADIAN INSTITUTE IN GREECE
CIG'S BIANNUAL STUDENT CONFERENCE
"REPRODUCTION AND REPURPOSING IN ANTIQUITY

On 6-7 February 2014 the Canadian Institute in Greece’s Biannual Student Conference (CIG 2015) “Reproduction and Repurposing in Antiquity” will be held at the University of Windsor (Ontario, Canada) in conjunction with the Greek and Roman Studies Program. The event will take place in McPherson Lounge in Alumni Hall.

Dr. Timothy Winters, Professor of Classics at Austin Peay State University and the current Gertrude Smith Professor at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, will deliver a keynote talk on the evening of Friday 6 February on the archaeology and history of the island of Salamis and his research there, titled “There’s Nothing Out There”.

Tina Ross (MA, University of Victoria), current archaeological illustrator and publication artist at projects such as Mitrou, Pylos, Eleon, Kenchreai, and Aigeira will be conducting a professional workshop on drawing archaeological ceramics and understanding pot sherds (http://www.tinaross.ca/archaeologicalillustrationworkshopinfoross.pdf). There are still a few places available in the two sessions of 4 hours each, limited to 10 persons per session. Interested parties should reserve their place as soon as possible by contacting conference coordinator, Jeff Banks (banksjn@mail.uc.edu). One session will be held in the afternoon of Friday 6 February, the second on Saturday 7 February. There is a nominal fee to reserve a place at this professional workshop. Illustration instruments will be available to the participants and they will have the opportunity to handle and engage with actual antiquities.
