Sessional Lecturer – 2015/16

The Department of Greek and Roman Studies invites applications for a Sessional Lecturer with a specialization in Classical Studies, including strengths in teaching Greek and Roman Archaeology. He/She will be expected to teach six courses over two semesters. Applicants should hold the PhD and have demonstrable skill in teaching a broad range of courses in Classical studies. Preference will be given to instructors who already have experience teaching material related to the following courses on offer for the 2015-16 academic year:

Fall 2015

— GRS 100A Introduction to Greek Civilization
— GRS 371 Greek Art and Archaeology
— GRS 374 Pompeii and Herculaneum

Spring 2016

— GRS 200 Greek and Roman Mythology
— GRS 250 Greek and Latin Roots of English in Science and the Social Sciences
— GRS 372 Roman Art and Archaeology

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
PRESIDENT OF THE CANADIAN INSTITUTE IN GREECE

The Board of the Canadian Institute in Greece (CIG) is seeking nominations for the position of President of CIG. The President serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee, and is an ex-officio member of the Permits Committee, the Publications Committee, and the Personnel and Fellowships Committee. The President is responsible for all aspects of the operations of the Institute in Canada, and oversees the operations of CIG in Greece which are otherwise the responsibility of the Director and Assistant Director of CIG in Athens. Candidates should have a strong academic background particularly in Hellenic studies, proven administrative skills, long experience in Greece with modern Greek language skills as an asset but not a necessity, familiarity with the activities and operations of CIG, experience in budget building and fund raising, and the ability to work with a diverse group of people, mostly with academic backgrounds, in a collegial environment.

This is a volunteer position with no compensation. It is the practice of CIG to elect the President annually from a slate of members-at-large of the Board of Directors, but it is expected that the candidate to replace the current President, who is retiring as of December 1, 2015, will hold the position for at least three years.

Nominations should be accompanied by a brief resumé which will be circulated among members of the Board of Directors. APPEL DE CANDIDATURES
PRÉSIDENT DE L'INSTITUT CANADIEN EN GRÈCE

NB: Le poste est ouvert autant aux femmes qu’aux hommes, mais le masculin seul est utilisé dans le but d’alléger le texte.

Le Conseil d’administration de l’Institut canadien en Grèce (ICG) lance un appel de candidatures pour combler le poste de président de l’ICG. Le titulaire remplira la fonction de président du Conseil d’administration et du Conseil exécutif; il sera aussi membre ex officio du Conseil des permis, du Conseil des publications et du Conseil du personnel et des bourses. Le président est en charge des opérations de l’Institut au Canada; il supervise aussi les opérations qui sont du ressort du directeur et de l’assistant-directeur de l’Institut en Grèce, à Athènes.

Les candidats devraient avoir un profil académique solide en études helléniques et posséder une expérience directe et approfondie de la Grèce elle-même. Une connaissance de la langue grecque moderne n’est pas requise mais serait un atout. Les candidats devraient aussi faire preuve d’expérience en tant qu’administrateurs, dans l’élaboration de budgets, et comme leveurs de fonds. Ils devraient être déjà familiers avec les activités et les opérations de l’ICG et avoir démontré une capacité pour le travail d’équipe, avec des groupes variés d’individus mais surtout de profil académique.

Ce poste est bénévole et sans rémunération. L’ICG élit normalement son président annuellement au moyen d’une liste de candidats choisis parmi les membres représentatifs du Conseil d’administration, mais l’on s’attend à ce que le prochain président, qui remplacera le président sortant au moment où il prendra sa retraite le 1er décembre 2015, occupe cette fonction pour au moins trois ans.

Les mises en candidatures devraient être accompagnées d’un bref curriculum vitae qui sera distribué aux membres du Conseil d’administration.
