We would like to remind all residents about the Canadian Association of Radiologists Journal (CARJ) Residents' Corner. In each issue of the Journal, one or more case quizzes -- including patient history, results of physical examination and pertinent laboratory tests, and representative images -- are published; the correct answers and a discussion of each case appear in the next issue. The cases are submitted by Canadian Residents and can be prepared in consultation with staff members. All submitted cases will be sent for external review before publication.
All Residents are encouraged to participate in the Residents' Corner by submitting both cases for publication and answers. A personal prize of $500, provided by the Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR), will be awarded each calendar year to the Resident with the highest number of correct answers for that year. In addition, there will be a prize of $500 for the Resident who publishes (as first author) the most articles, including Residents' Corner cases and regular articles, in the CARJ. In the event of a tie, the prize money will be divided among the winners. Please note that only Residents who are members of the CAR are eligible for the prizes.
Submitted cases should consist of the following:
- a topic with a worthwhile and relevant teaching point;
- a pertinent history, including the results of physical examination and laboratory tests;
- images of excellent quality, along with a legend for each (three sets of glossy photographs for the quiz itself and three other sets, with appropriate arrows and other markers and more detailed legends, for the answer component);
- the application of more than one imaging modality (preferred);
- a diagnosis that can be reached solely on the basis of the images and clinical information provided;
- relevant references.
Three copies of all typed material must be provided. The format, which can be seen in this and previous issues of the Journal, should include a quiz component (the history) and a separate answer component, which can include the following sections as applicable: diagnosis, radiologic findings, differential diagnosis, pathological or operative correlation, prognosis or outcome, and discussion.
We encourage all Residents to participate in the Residents' Corner and hope that they will both enjoy and learn from the cases.
Case submissions for the Residents' Corner should be addressed to Dr. A. Dale Vellet, Editor, Canadian Association of Radiologists Journal, c/o Department of Diagnostic Imaging, Foothills Hospital, 1403 - 29 St. NW, Calgary AB T2N 2T9 (Attention: Kim Robson-Lefebvre).
