Multimerin: a bench-to-bedside chronology of a unique platelet and endothelial cell protein from discovery to function to abnormalities in disease

Fig. 5: Comparisons of the multimerin transcripts expressed in endothelial cells, platelets and a megakaryocytic cell line (Dami cells). The prepromultimerin mRNAs in these cells were reverse-transcribed, then amplified (as 2 overlapping fragments) by polymerase chain reaction. The numbers beside the arrows denote the nucleotide positions at the beginning and end of the fragments.3 The prepromultimerin message expressed in these cells are identical to each other in size. Prepromultimerin is expressed by Dami cells only after stimulation with phorbol esters (the lanes under the plus signs indicate the Dami cells treated with phorbol ester, whereas those under the minus signs indicate untreated cells).
