Effect of progesterone therapy on arginine vasopressin and atrial natriuretic factor in premenstrual syndrome

The infusion was administered on a test day in the follicular (F) and luteal (L) phases of 2 cycles: O = no treatment, P = progesterone treatment. Progesterone therapy (Rx) was administered from ovulation (ov) to the start of menstruation (bars). In this schematic diagram, a 28 day cycle is shown, with ovulation on day 14 and the follicular and luteal test days 6 days after and before the start of menstruation, respectively. On each test day, a 3% saline solution was infused from 8 am to 10 am and blood and urine samples were collected at the times indicated by the arrows in the bottom diagram.
