Physicians in the news

Canadian Medical Association Journal 1996; 154: 935
Pediatrician Dr. Ranjit Chandra, head of the Immunology and Allergy Department at the Dr. Charles A. Janeway Child Health Centre in St. John's, was named to Maclean's 1995 Honour Role in December. Chandra's research has focused on the ways malnutrition in mothers leads to immune deficiencies in children and on how malnutrition lowers immune resistance in the elderly. Among the 11 other Canadians honoured by Maclean's were Priscilla de Villiers, a crusader against violent crime (see Gray C: Physician, family respond to tragedy by taking action against violence. CMAJ 1994; 151: 454-455) and Andrée Gauvin, a palliative care pioneer who has been recognized in Quebec and France.
