In 1974 Dr. Hoey returned to McGill in the departments of Medicine and of Epidemiology and Community Health as a National Health and Welfare Scholar; he continued his teaching, research and part-time practice of internal medicine at McGill until 1993, interrupted by a sabbatical as visiting scientist at the Centre d'épidémiologie du CNRS, Université Claude-Bernard, Lyon, France, and an MSc graduate program at Stanford University School of Business, Stanford, Calif. He was director of the Medical Polyclinic at the Royal Victoria, chief of the Department of Community Health at the Montreal General Hospital and vice-chair and acting chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at McGill.
In 1993 Dr. Hoey moved to Queen's University, Kingston, in the Department of Epidemiology and Community Health, and was Associate Medical Officer of Health of the Kingston, Frontenac and Lennox and Addington Health Unit. He has authored numerous publications in health services research. A recent grandfather, he lives with his wife, Catherine, in Perth, Ont., where he maintains a small apiary.
