McGill medical journal celebrates first issue

Canadian Medical Association Journal 1996; 155: 741
The premiere issue of the McGill Journal of Medicine -- "an international forum for the advancement of medical science by students" -- was published this spring, featuring medical student authors from Canada and the United States. The 90-page inaugural issue contained editorials and letters, and articles on topics such as multimodal treatment of Wilms' tumour, lumbar spondylolysis, immune-mediated tissue injury and T-cell anergy and deletion induced by superantigens.

Founding editor Jonathan Lim, a third-year medical student at McGill, wrote that the journal's objective "is to provide student authors with opportunities to voice their contributions to medicine in one scholarly, biannual publication." The editorial board, which includes 52 students, evaluates and reviews the scientific content of manuscript submissions, edits copy, typesets final papers and manages advertising, subscriptions and distribution. Inquiries about subscriptions and manuscripts are welcome; contact MJM, 3655 Drummond St., Montreal, QC H3G 1Y6; 514 398-6987; mjm@medcor.mcgill.ca (email).
