In brief

The private-sector share of health expenditures hit a record 28.2% in Canada in 1994, according to a recent federal report. Canadians spent $698 per person for private health-related goods and services, a 1-year increase of 3.8%. Ontarians paid the most -- $790 per person -- while Newfoundlanders paid the least, $538.

En 1994, la portion des dépenses de santé assumée par le secteur privé au Canada a atteint un sommet sans précédent de 28,2 %, affirme un récent rapport du fédéral. Les Canadiens ont dépensé en moyenne 698 $ par personne pour des produits et services de santé privés, soit une augmentation de 3,8 % par rapport à l'année précédente; ces dépenses ont été les plus élevées en Ontario (790 $) et les plus faibles à Terre-Neuve (538 $).
